Radio Maria Canada
The Culture Watch radio program is back, featuring the story of a Canadian Sister of the Most Holy Trinity, who has been working in the troubled nation of Mexico, where the drug war there may have taken more than 120,000 lives so far with no signs of abating.
Sister Vera Komar helps shelter and assist vulnerable girls, conducts prison and street ministry to youth and visits natives in mountainous regions. Raised in Cambridge, Ont., Komar is a former tennis professional who competed in prestigious international tournaments before entering the novitiate in 1978 and making her final vows in 1987. She first went to Mexico in 1995 and more recently, has been looking into the use of animals for therapeutic purposes among the people to whom she ministers.
Culture Watch sat down with Sister Komar during her recent visit to Canada, and we talked to her about her order’s work in Mexico, as well as the situation in that nation now.
